Location

The District of Lantzville is a rural seaside community of approximately 4,000. Easily accessible by road, air, and ferry, Lantzville is situated on the northern border of the City of Nanaimo and south of the City of Parksville.

Role

The District of Lantzville has a career opportunity for a dynamic individual to assume the role of Deputy Director of Corporate Administration. Duties

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Administration (Corporate Officer), you will assist with the statutory responsibilities of the Corporate Officer as required, and provide a diverse range of confidential, administrative and legislative support to our organization. You will:

  • Play a key role in Council and committee support (preparing agendas, minutes, procedural advice, etc.)
  • Manage, prepare drafts, and review bylaws, policies, agreements and contracts
  • Handle the administration of the District’s records management and information program
  • Carry out corporate communications
  • Respond to complaints and routine enquiries, or route appropriately for response by others
  • Provide support for human resources and property management functions
  • Assist with organizing and conducting municipal elections and other voting approval processes
  • Act as the Freedom of Information Coordinator and administer the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA)
  • Assist in preparing and monitoring Departmental annual budget and work plans, and maintaining corporate lists and indexes, e.g. strategic priorities, resolutions, etc.

  • Strong competencies and experience with technical troubleshooting
  • Presentation, special event and project management expertise
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Excellent supervisory, organizational and time management skills, vital to respond to changing priorities and tight timelines
  • Goal-oriented with a customer service excellence focus

Qualification

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive, related municipal government experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus a Diploma in Public Administration or related post- secondary degre
  • Assets: Certificate in Local Government Administration; Certificate in Records Management or Certified Records Manager (CRM) designation; or certification or eligibility for certification as a Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC)
  • Working knowledge of the Community Charter, Local Government Act, and FOIPPA, as well as other relevant provincial legislation
  • Strong understanding of administrative law, Council procedures, and Roberts Rules of Order
  • Extensive experience with website content management, social media and Microsoft Office Suite, including accounting, data base, desktop publishing and PowerPoint

Returns

The proposed annual salary for the role is $95,000, subject to qualifications and experience.
