Senior Manager, Engineering
(Transportation & Drainage)

Municipality of North Cowichan

“CAN I DRIVE ON IT?” “IS IT FLOODING?”

If you know how to figure out the answers to these two questions, then we can’t wait to meet you. The Municipality of North Cowichan wants you to use your P.Eng. designation and your problem-solving skills to look after our transportation and infrastructure needs, and to make sure that our major and minor drainage systems are working in top notch form. Help us maintain our stunning communities in our beautiful corner of the planet.

WHERE IS THE JOB?

Located on southern Vancouver Island, North Cowichan employs 450 staff and is home to just over 31,000 residents. The Municipality sits right between Nanaimo and Victoria, and is a community of communities, so you will have a direct hand in impacting the lives of Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay, and South End/University Village. Your office will be in Duncan on the Trans-Canada Highway, meaning an easy commute home in any direction.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

You’ll support the team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, your day-to-day partner will be the Senior Manager, Engineering (Utilities – Water and Sanitary Systems). Together, you will coordinate all engineering projects and ensure seamless planning and execution throughout the municipality. You will share responsibility for the Municipality’s extensive infrastructure networks including: three water treatment and distribution systems; four sanitary collection and treatment systems; an extensive road and active transportation network as well as the drainage and flood protection network.

WHAT WILL YOU GET OUT OF IT?

A competitive annual wage of $120,738 – $131,934 and a comprehensive (dare we say, outstanding) benefits package.

A fantastic lifestyle with outdoor adventures galore. Don’t believe us? Check out our visuals: Welcome to North Cowichan 2023 video

The chance to make a big difference with a diverse and supportive team.

WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE TEAM?

You are an effective communicator and you’re a team player. You’re experienced in project management and budget management, and have demonstrable ability to present complex technical and financial materials to senior leadership and Council. You combine your technical knowledge with your people management skills to lead staff in a unionized environment and oversee the work of consultants. You’re a quick thinker who shows grace under pressure when handling questions from the public, elected officials, other levels of government, and external agencies. The Municipality acknowledges that we sit on the traditional territories of the Quw’utsun and Snuneymuxw First Nations; and so, experience building and supporting Indigenous partnerships will be an asset.
