THE POSITION – A PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN A DYNAMIC TEAM

The Manager of Financial Services is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the Finance Department’s internal controls, records, systems and staff. You will work with all departments to provide professional expertise, advice and assistance as required. You will also provide strategic leadership and perform statutory financial administrative functions in the absence of the Chief Financial Officer. You bring experience managing staff in accordance with municipal bylaws, policies, procedure, and statutory requirements. It is critical to the success of this role that you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong desire to problem solve.

As the Manager of Financial Services, you will participate in a number of public matters including dealing with resident taxation issues/complaints through accounting staff and take a lead role in the Tax Sale and Roll Review Panel proceedings.  You have the skill to ensure that all finance and accounting functions are carried out in accordance with established policies, statutes, and accepted accounting practices and principles; and will assume the position of Deputy Collector for the City.

 THE REQUIREMENTS – A TRACK RECORD OF EXCELLENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Finance with a focus in accounting.
  • Accredited Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CGA, CMA or CA) designation.
  • Minimum of five (5) years progressive accounting experience, preferably in local government.
  • Demonstrated ongoing professional development.
  • Experience managing staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
