Library Director
Grand Forks & District Public Library
The Grand Forks & District Public Library is seeking an experienced and community-focused Library Director to lead our team. This is a wonderful opportunity help advance our mission of providing free, inclusive, and innovative public library services to the residents of Grand Forks and the Boundary region.
As the senior administrative officer reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Library Director is responsible for the overall management of library operations, finances, staffing, and strategic direction. This role combines leadership, community engagement, and hands-on management in a welcoming and progressive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership in collaboration with the Library Board.
- Oversee library programs, services, staff, and budgets.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including the Library Act, FOIPPA, and WorkSafeBC
- Prepare budgets, financial reports, and provincial submissions (Annual Survey, SOFI report, etc.).
- Lead staff recruitment, training, and performance management in a unionized setting.
- Manage the library’s collection, technology systems, and physical facilities.
- Foster community partnerships and maintain strong relationships with local governments and organizations.
- Serve as the Board’s Secretary and the Library’s FOIPPA Officer.
Qualifications
- Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an accredited institution and at least 2 years of senior administrative experience in a public library; OR
- Library and Information Technology Diploma with relevant post-secondary education and at least 5 years of senior administrative experience in a public library.
Skills & Competencies
- Proven leadership and team management abilities.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Financial management experience, including budgeting and reporting.
- Knowledge of library trends, collection development, and public service standards.
- Comfort working with technology, library systems, and social media.
- Experience in a unionized environment and understanding of collective agreements.
