THE OPPORTUNITY

The Hamlet of Grise Fiord is seeking a skilled and committed Senior Administrative Officer (SAO) to serve as the chief administrative leader of the community. ABOUT THE COMMUNITY

Grise Fiord is located on the southern tip of Ellesmere Island and is the northernmost permanently inhabited community in Canada. Life in Nunavut offers a unique pace and perspective, grounded in relationships, collaboration, and respect for Inuit culture and knowledge.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Your work as SAO will be meaningful and visible.  You will serve as the operational leader of the Hamlet and report directly to Mayor and Council. You will have a broad scope of responsibilities, ranging from financial stewardship and staff leadership to infrastructure oversight, emergency preparedness, and community programming. You will lead a dedicated team, support governance practices, and represent the community in regional and territorial partnerships. Success as the SAO requires adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Demonstrated people management experience across diverse teams; the ability to communicate clearly; and to build positive working relationships
  • Senior-level experience in municipal government or the public sector
  • Solid background in financial management, budgeting, and administration
  • Strong understanding of municipal governance, legislation, and public administration practices
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment; experience in northern or Indigenous communities is an asset
  • Degree or diploma in Public Administration, Business Administration, Municipal Administration, or a related field (preferred)
