We are looking for an experienced individual to lead the Building Services and Business Licensing team and act as the Chief Building Official. The City values a diverse workforce and the ideal candidate for this position will bring the skill, passion, and expertise obtained from experience in both Business Licensing and Building. Reporting to the Director of Development Services, the Building and Licensing Manager provides strong leadership and directs the day-to-day tasks and projects of the building inspections and business licensing department team. Using your expertise and problem solving skills, you will be responsible for coordinating all permits and applications to ensure they are processed within time constraints established in the approval by-laws, considering expectations of the development community.
The successful candidate will establish and maintain positive, constructive working relationships with all key stakeholders and work with a high degree of independent action and judgment within established policies and procedures, as well as continually look at process efficiencies to improve customer experiences. You will demonstrate practical solutions in the grey areas of the BC Building Code and work with City staff and the development community in a customer first focus utilizing good communication protocols.
Along with your degree or diploma in Building Technology and your Level III Certification with BOABC and Level 1 Certification in Plumbing with POABC, we require a minimum of five years progressively responsible and decision-making experience in a Municipal setting including supervisory experience in a unionized environment. Candidates will also be considered who have an architectural background and are registered with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC); or those with a professional engineering background (P.Eng.), registered and licensed with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia.
We are seeking an individual with excellent leadership, oral and written communication skills along with organizational and project management skills, problem solving, negotiations and results oriented.
