The District of Sparwood, in collaboration with the District of Elkford, is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Building Official to join our municipal teams. This unique five-year contract position offers the opportunity to work in two progressive communities nestled in the spectacular Elk Valley, in the Southeast Kootenay region of BC. You’ll work 3 days per week in Sparwood and 2 in Elkford, supporting both municipalities in delivering high-quality building and plumbing permit and inspection services. Both Districts utilize Cloud Permit, an online platform for permit review, issuance and inspections, so your workflows in both organizations will be similar.

What You’ll Do
- Review and process building and plumbing permit applications
- Conduct site inspections for compliance with the BC Building Code and local bylaws
- Provide technical guidance to homeowners, builders, and municipal staff
- Enforce applicable building regulations and bylaws
- Maintain detailed records and reports
What We’re Looking For
- One of the following:
- Level 1 Building Official – BOABC Level 1 Building and Level 1 Plumbing
- Level 2 Building Official – BOABC Level 2 Building and Level 1 Plumbing
- Level 3 Building Official – BOABC Level 3 Building and Level 2 Plumbing
- Understanding of BC Building Regulations, Community Charter, and the Local Government Act
- Successful completion of Level 1 Justice Institute’s Bylaw Enforcement Program
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
- Excellent communication, analytical, and customer service skills
- Experience with data entry and good working knowledge of the MS Office environment
What We Offer
- Competitive Pay at the Following Rates:
- Level 1: $45 – $50 / hour
- Level 2: $51.50 – $56.65 / hour
- Level 3: $56.65 – $61.80 / hour
- Full-Time Flexibility: 40 hours per week with eligibility for our earned day off program

- Relocation Support: Up to $5,000 if you relocate within the boundaries of Sparwood or Elkford
