The District of Stewart is advantageously placed as a deep-sea port on BC’ s beautiful northern coast. During the summer, the District serves as the hub for expanding mineral exploration in the region; and is a major tourist draw with its closeness to Alaska and road access to a major glacier – the Salmon. Recreational opportunities are abundant year-round with salmon and halibut fishing down the Portland Canal, and with first class snowmobiling and heli-skiing on the adjacent mountains well into the summer. Major industry in the area includes Mining, Logging and Port operations.

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Mayor and Council, the Chief Administrative Officer is accountable for the operation of all municipal services in the District and will also hold the statutory position of Corporate Officer.

The Mayor and Council are seeking an action oriented, self-motivated person to assist them with the challenges of a community which is on the edge of a mining boom and has great potential for renewed growth and development. The successful applicant will be a strong confident professional, skilled in collaborating with Mayor and Council, the business community, other government jurisdictions, and will assume total responsibility for the operations of the Municipality – assisting Council in carrying out their duties as well as coaching the municipal staff in achieving their goals. Strong credentials in local government administration, a good track record of sound decisions at a senior level, and demonstrated proficiency in mentoring and training staff will be important to the Mayor and Council.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant must possess a degree or diploma in a related discipline (preferably public administration) or an equivalent education/ experience base. He/ she should have a broad knowledge of the Community Charter and Local Government act with previous progressive experience in municipal administration, preferably 3 – 5 years. A British Columbia Board of Examiners Certificate in Local Government is desirable.

The District of Stewart offers a competitive benefit package, and a starting salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The current salary range is $120,000 – $140,000. WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
Reporting to the new Chief Administrative Officer for the District, the Corporate Officer is a statutory position responsible for corporate administration, accurate minute taking, administering oaths and affidavits, and records management. The Corporate Officer will also be assisting the Chief Election Officer in the upcoming municipal elections. The position also offers human resource support and general administrative support to the Mayor and Council and Department Heads. The Corporate Officer is the Department Head of Corporate Administration. As a Statutory Officer, member of the Local Government Management Association, and employee of the District of Fort St. James, the Corporate Officer acts with and fosters the highest standard of ethical conduct.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • At least 2 years experience in public administration or a related role, preferably in local government
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Post secondary education in the field of public administration is preferred.

Are you looking for a unique and exciting opportunity to assist the Village of Lytton in rebuilding the community? Lytton is looking for the right person to take on this once-in-a-lifetime challenge of helping to create a vibrant, resilient, and historical Village.
 
The location: With the acknowledgement that it is on the territory of the Nlaka’pamux peoples, the Village of Lytton is located 3 hours north of Vancouver, or 2 hours west of Kamloops. As the Corporate Officer, you will begin your new role working remotely, but will be close enough to Lytton to attend in- person meetings whenever needed.
 
The role: Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will assist with the management of all functions related to the statutory duties and responsibilities of the position of Corporate Officer (CO). The CO will play a key role in local elections, FOI requests, management of the records management system, and preparation of agendas, minutes, reports, bylaws, policies, and statutory notices. The CO will also manage the Corporate Services Department and if applicable, administrative support staff; providing complex, confidential administrative support to Mayor & Council, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

  • Excellent working knowledge of ALL Microsoft Office Products and electronic meeting management software.
  • Working knowledge of ICompass and Sharepoint are an asset.
